About Rani

Pilates with Rani is run by Rani Deb, a certified Pilates Instructor.
My love for Pilates began when I started taking weekly classes. My Pilates teacher saw my potential and encouraged me to pursue Pilates training. Since then, I have dedicated myself to sharing the incredible benefits of Pilates with others. I loved how Pilates made me feel – after every class I felt stronger and I loved how it challenged my body and my balance. There was something about Pilates that kept taking me back to classes, I never got bored, I loved how the exercises made me feel and the space it gave me to breathe. I soon left my job in teaching children after 16 years, a challenging yet rewarding job I loved but at times work demands were high. I decided to pursue a career in Pilates as I wanted to help other people to enhance their posture, build flexibility, core strength and endurance. I have always had a thirst for learning and always strive to continue deepening my knowledge, skills and experience.

I aim to educate others on how to keep active, mobile and strong for lifelong health – to alleviate aches and pains so you can continue to do all the things you love. Our bodies were designed to move, movement is therapy!

I am enthusiastic, ambitious and take great pride in the work I do, planning for clients, delivering with passion and creating meaningful relationships with clients to nurture them to the best of their ability. Helping people to achieve more in their daily lives through the practice of Pilates. You will work hard and be surprised at what your body can do but consistency is key to seeing results.

Beyond Pilates, I am a wife and mum to two amazing children who love to join me on the mat to  support me in my Pilates passion. My children often showcase their Pilates skills to me, love joining in on the mat and I hope to inspire them to lead active, healthy lives and discover their own hobbies to support their wellbeing.  I believe that everyone should find a form of physical exercise that they enjoy and can maintain for lifelong health.

What is Pilates?

“It develops the body uniformly, corrects poor posture, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.”
– Joseph Pilates

Pilates is a series of mat-based exercises developed by Joseph Pilates (1883–1967), designed to activate deep postural muscles, promoting both physical and mental well-being. Born near Düsseldorf, Germany, Joseph Pilates faced several health challenges as a child, including rickets, asthma, and rheumatic fever. Determined to improve his own health, he created a personal exercise regime and immersed himself in various disciplines such as diving, gymnastics, skiing, boxing, self-defence, karate, yoga, and Zen meditation. In 1912, Joseph moved to London, where he worked as a self-defence instructor for Scotland Yard. During World War I, while interned in the UK, he began developing and refining his unique method of rehabilitation for injured and bedridden soldiers. He called this system Contrology - an approach to movement that emphasized control, precision, and breath.

To aid recovery, he famously attached springs to hospital beds to provide resistance training, laying the foundation for what we now know as Pilates equipment. Today, this concept lives on through the use of small props, the Reformer, and the Cadillac.

Joseph Pilates passed away in 1967 at the age of 87. Although he never formally established a training school, his method gained popularity worldwide and is now widely known as the Pilates Method. His book, Return to Life Through Contrology, outlines his original repertoire of 34 mat exercises - many of which are still taught today, often with modern adaptations.

The Pilates technique is built upon six fundamental principles:
Breath
Concentration
Control
Centering
Precision
Flow
